The NRL is accredited to ČSN EN ISO 15189 as a public health laboratory by the Czech Accreditation Institute.

  • is a member of Global Polio Laboratory Network for WHO European Region;
  • is a member of NKCP (National Commission for Certification of Polio Eradication ) for Czech Republic,
  • is internationally accredited as a WHO National Reference Laboratory for enteroviruses;
  • is internationally certified  by PT WHO for Virus isolation; ITD testing and environmental surveillance,
  • is the coordinator of external quality assessment for Czech Republic,
  • in case of interest prepare samples for interlaboratory comparasion (enterovirus serology and SARS-CoV 2 serology),
  • provides in the Czech republic for GPLN surveillance of acute flaccid paresis ((examination of stools of each case of acute flaccid paresis in children under 15 years), environmental (examination of waste water) and enteroviral surveillance (examination of urine, stool, myocardial biopsies, smears from lesions, sera, throat swabs) using qRT-PCR, isolation on tissue cultures,
  • weekly reporting of these samples to the LMDS program (Laboratory Management Data System),
  • uses ITD PCR to distinguish between wild and vaccine poliovirus,
  • collaborates with the WHO RRL for enteroviruses in Helsinki to determine intratypic properties and monitor antigenic changes of isolated poliovirus strains,
  • performs Sanger sequencing targeting the VP1 coding region of enterovirus
  • monitors the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater using the qRT-PCR method,
  • monitors the levels of antibodies against enteroviruses in patients with cardiac, neurological, metabolic disorders and diabetes mellitus using the ELISA methodexamines antibody levels with a virus neutralization test against polioviruses PV1 and PV3 in children with immunodeficiency, patients with neurological disabilities or malignancies,
  • monitors the levels of antibodies against hantaviruses in patients with nephrological  impairment using the ELISA method
  • works closely with NRL/CHNCH (NRL for Influenza and Non-Influenza Respiratory Viral Diseases) to diagnose SARS-CoV-2 by qRT-PCR and e levels of antibodies against enteroviruses in patients with cardiac, neurological
  • provides SARS-CoV-2 serology
  • provides consultations, internships and lectures for attestants
